Delaware Press Association Awards Banquet

Please join Delaware Press Association at the University & Whist Club, 805 N. Broom Street, Wilmington, DE, on May 4 for the 2017 Delaware Press Association Awards Banquet and 40-Year-Anniversary Gala, with favors for all and a special presentation from Rob Tornoe. Bring a guest or two to help us honor those who entered the DPA Communications Contests this year – professional communicators and high school journalists alike – and to enjoy the display of the award-winning contest entries.

Agenda

5:30 p.m. Social Hour with Cash Bar & Awards Display; Tête-à-Tête with Rob Tornoe
6:30 p.m. Dinner, Speaker, and Awards Presentation. Certificates will be presented to the contest award winners and $500 in cash prizes will be given to the contest sweepstakes winners.

Speaker: Rob Tornoe, Writer/Editor/Cartoonist, The Philadelphia Inquirer
DPA Awards Banquet speaker

Several years ago when featured in the quarterly DPA newsletter, cartoonist Rob Tornoe described himself as “an equal-opportunity offender” when it came to political cartoons.

We recently asked Rob – now also a writer and editor: Is there a serious side to being a cartoonist?  How does someone create a cartoon one day and a hard-news story the next day? And what can we learn about versatility and relevance in an ever-changing world of news media and social media.

Regional and national figures have been depicted in Rob’s many cartoons over the years, and he continues to thrive as a cartoonist, writer, and editor with Philly.com and The Philadelphia Inquirer. We will see some of Rob’s favorite cartoons – some famous, some infamous – and get a current take on today’s media landscape from someone in the media, who also covers the media.
