Delaware Press Association Annual Meeting & Communications Contest Awards Banquet
The 2019 awards banquet will be held at the University & Whist Club, 805 North Broom Street, Wilmington, on Thursday, May 2. The annual event will honor those who entered the Communications Contests this year – professional communicators and high school journalists alike. Social hour with cash bar and display of award-winning entries begins at 5:30 p.m. Dinner, speaker, and awards presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Victor Greto, Associate Professor, Multimedia Communication & History, Wesley College, believes the core of journalism as a vocation and duty has been dissipating in an American society mesmerized by technology and social media. His address will be “It’s Not About You, But It’s All Up To You: Keeping Power Accountable Through Journalism and Multimedia Communication in the 21st Century.” Greto will talk about “the responsibilities that go with the decision to become a journalist and the need to practice technically efficient, ethical multimedia communication in 21st-century America.”
He says “It’s not about you or your brand, your social status, likes, shares or hits: It’s about your city, your county, your state, your children, the people you love, and the country and world in which you are a citizen. It’s not about you. But it’s all up to you.”
