Biographical Info
A member of DPA since 1990 (president for the first four years) and Executive Director for about 25 years, I have orchestrated many programs for our members and for high school journalists, have been the director of the annual communications contest for many years, and was named the DPA Communicator of Achievement in 2007. I also have served as co-director of the NFPW National High School Communications Contest.
For a number of years, I worked in the field of gifted & talented education. I wrote curriculum for and taught classes in writing and created a popular humanities seminar that focused on the Victorian Era.
I’ve written books about Delaware women, articles, manuals, brochures, and was the longtime editor/writer/publisher of NewsBreak, the DPA newsletter, printed and mailed until 2006 and published electronically after that. During the last 20 – 25 years, I have edited books of many types – memoirs, novels, poetry, scholarly works, religious, young adult fiction, crisis management – almost all of which have won state and national awards.
Service on several boards and membership in various community organizations keeps me busy, but I love to knock off when I can and then enjoy reading (I listen to a lot of audio books), gardening, attending music festivals, and making things with my hands (including knitting, carpentry, and other “handy-man” work).
Racing around with my granddaughters (17 & 15) is the most fun of all: playing games and music and reading stories together, visiting museums and historical sites, hiking around the area, tossing a lacrosse ball around the back yard, cooking, zip-lining, and going on other adventures to visit family near and far, including a grandson who is 3.
