Communications Contest Awards Banquet and Annual Meeting
Bring a guest or two and join us in the ballroom at the University & Whist Club, 805 N. Broom Street, Wilmington, on Thursday, May 3, to honor those who entered our Communications Contests this year – professional communicators and high school journalists alike – and to enjoy the display of the award-winning contest entries.

Social hour with cash bar begins at 5:30 p.m. Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Following dinner, the Communications Contest awards will be announced, certificates will be presented to the contest award winners and $500 in cash prizes will be given to the contest sweepstakes winners.

Speaker: Phil Freedman
After dinner, Phil Freedman, news director and the #2 editor at The News Journal  and it’s digital version delawareonline.com, will talk about “Newspapers in Transition.”  A champion of First Amendment and enterprise reporting and a passionate advocate for citizens and his readers, Phil will take a look at where newspapers are and where they are going, with an emphasis on this slightly messy transition period, which is now entering its second decade. For the benefit of DPA members, the professional contest award winners, and the high school contest award winners and their parents, he will explore “What can and should readers expect moving forward?”

Directions
From Pennsylvania Avenue (Route 52) heading north out of Wilmington, turn left on Broom Street or, if driving south from Route 141, turn right on Broom. Landmark: Church of the Holy City at SW corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Broom Street. In two to three blocks (you will pass Padua School on your right), watch on your right for the stone pillars on either side of the driveway into the University & Whist grounds immediately as you cross Ninth Street.

Parking Information
There is a parking lot at the club (to the left and to the rear of the building), as well as free on-street parking on adjacent streets should the lot be full. For a small fee, valet parking is available at the front door, and there is a handicap access ramp into the club from the parking area at the rear of the building.
