Washington Post’s David Weigel
to Speak at DPA Event

Covering the News
When One Voice Drowns Out Almost Everything Else

Washington Post reporter David Weigel will address a common challenge for journalists today: “Covering the news when one voice drowns out almost everything else.” His talk will be given at the Delaware Press Association Holiday Luncheon, on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at the Ed Oliver Golf Club, 800 N. Dupont Road, Wilmington, Delaware. The event is open to the public.

David Weigel is a national political correspondent covering Congress and grassroots political movements. A native Delawarean, Weigel attended the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and has written for PoliticoForeign PolicyThe American ConservativeGQ, and Rolling Stone, among other publications. After what should be a fascinating talk, Weigel will answer questions from the audience.

The event begins at 11:30 a.m. with a social hour, cash bar and music, “Sounds of the Season,” by Pam Finkelman on piano and Gretchen Cox on flute. This will be followed by lunch, the speaker, and the presentation of the 2018 DPA Communicator of Achievement (COA) award.

Communicator of Achievement

The COA award is the highest honor DPA bestows on its members. First and foremost, the COA award is given for a lifetime of achievement in the communications profession. And second, it recognizes exemplary service to the community and to humanity as well as to the profession, especially to Delaware Press Association and the National Federation of Press Women. DPA’s 2017 COA, Kim Burdick, will present the 2018 Communicator of Achievement. Who will it be this year? Attend the DPA Holiday Luncheon to find out!

Book Signing

During the social hour, you also can take care of some holiday shopping while you visit with DPA authors who will be happy to autograph their latest work. And don’t forget to pick up a bag of DPA 10-Bean Soup, a great stocking stuffer, and still just $5.
